Bind Research presents data and tools at the Gordon Research Conference on IDPs 2026

It’s taken us a little while to collect our thoughts on the recent Gordon Research Conferences meeting on Intrinsically Disordered Proteins in the beautiful Les Diablerets. Bind Research‘s CEO Gabi Heller and Head of Protein and Drug Discovery Jasmine (Jaz) Cornish attended and once again it was a highlight of the IDP calendar!

This year’s theme, “Linking Sequence to Disordered Protein Function,” tackled how proteins that never fold into a fixed shape still encode precise, reproducible biology.

What stood out for us?

  • Biology and disease relevance has real momentum. Sessions spanned ageing biology, pathogen disorder, transcription and chromatin regulation, and IDP malfunction. IDPs sit at the heart of some of medicine’s biggest problems.
  • The condensate field is maturing fast. The mechanistic detail on offer has moved well beyond “proteins can phase separate” into how that is tuned, regulated, and exploited by cells, with high-impact potential for drug discovery.
  • The toolkit is advancing rapidly. NMR took a prominent place, showing how the fine-grained views of disordered regions are crucial to making sequence-to-function prediction a realistic goal, a belief that’s core to Bind’s platform.

One gap, in our view, is still wide open: solid molecular binder information for IDPs remains sparse outside a handful of forefront programmes. That’s exactly where Bind is focused, and this year left us more driven than ever to close it.
